STI Course: Examining the New Literacies: Developing Online Reading Comprehension
Welcome to your own wikispace for reflecting on and sharing ideas you read and learn about during our time together this year!
My name is Julie Coiro and I am an Assistant Professor of Reading at The University of Rhode Island. I am really looking forward to learning with you and from you this year as we explore the many dimensions of new literacies and how best to develop curriculum that fosters collaboration and inquiry among students and teachers in your district.
The overall goals for this course include:
Explore and examine “A New Literacies Perspective of Online Reading Comprehension” through readings, discussions, online forums, and activities.
Learn about the process of Action Research as a means of examining the impact of new literacies on students’ content area learning & research.
Frame a research question, guided by your interests and student performance goals, that explores strategies for developing new literacies among your colleagues and your students
Carry out a collaborative action research project and share your findings with others in a reflective celebration at the end of the year. (Here's an example of a teacher's group action research project just to get you thinking about the possibilities).
